Location: Used during student roster uploads
Overview
When uploading student rosters, each student must have a unique username. Following consistent username guidelines helps prevent upload errors and ensures students can log in successfully.
Username Requirements
- Each username must be unique across your school or district
- Duplicate usernames will cause upload errors
- Usernames should be consistent and easy to manage
Recommended Formats
Elementary (K-5)
Use a simple, consistent format such as:
[school or district prefix].[student ID]
Example:
- sjp.10345
- rps.56789
Middle and High School (6-12)
Preferred option:
Student email address
Alternative:
[school or district prefix].[student ID]
What to Avoid
Do not use:
- First names only (e.g., jordan)
- Nicknames or initials
- Duplicate usernames
- Inconsistent formats across your roster
💡 Tips for Success
- Use a consistent prefix for your school or district
- Keep usernames simple, especially for younger students
- You may use the same password for multiple students if needed
- Double-check your file for duplicates before uploading
Checking for Duplicate Usernames
Before uploading your roster, you can check for duplicates in Excel or Google Sheets.
Example formula:
=COUNTIF(A:A, A2)>1
This will help identify any duplicate usernames that need to be corrected.
