The Growth Mindset was first introduced to us by Dr. Carol Dweck in her landmark book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. It has been clearly established as an essential component of happiness and achievement since it views life as a process of continually acquiring new experiences and skills, rather than as a proving ground of success or failure. This growth-oriented approach then becomes the foundation for our ability to achieve at higher levels and to find greater joy and meaning in life.
The 7 Mindsets integrate with and directly teach the Growth Mindset philosophy. Within the 100% Accountable Mindset, there is a specific learning objective titled “Grow Through Life.” The purpose of this learning objective is instilling intrinsic motivation to develop one’s own ability and capacity to create happiness and achievement in their lives. Additionally, the research model of the 7 Mindsets defined the essential characteristics that most correlate with one’s ability to be happy. The 7 Mindsets provide a framework for us to focus the “growth” of our brain in the areas that will most benefit our lives. Lastly, deeply integrated within our curriculum are “Growth-Based” strategies, games, videos, and activities. These components can be found within individual lessons, in the Resource Hub, as well as in the Classroom Integration resource included for every lesson.
